Overview & Setup

Campaigns are automated, rule‑driven workflows in Conviso. People enter when they satisfy your trigger (segment, event, or important date), then move through a visual flow of delays, conditions, and channel actions (email, SMS, push, Slack, webhooks). A campaign measures success with a goal and removes people when exit rules are met.

This page introduces the overview and setup you’ll use to design, start, and monitor campaigns in Conviso.

Campaign overview

How it works

A campaign is made up of a few key parts:

  1. Entry rules (trigger + filters): Decide who qualifies to enter and when they can start.
  2. Goal: Define the outcome that counts as success (a conversion) and how it’s measured.
  3. Exit rules: Remove people when the campaign is no longer relevant, so they don’t receive unnecessary steps.
  4. Workflow: The sequence of delays, conditions, and actions (messages and other tasks) people move through.
  5. Message preferences: Control who is eligible to receive messages at the campaign level (and sometimes per message).

Campaign setup

Campaign goals

A goal helps you evaluate campaign performance by recording when someone reaches a defined outcome—performing an event, entering a segment, or leaving a segment. It sets the criteria for a conversion and the method used to track it.

Setting a goal is optional, but it’s a useful way to measure campaign success. If you choose to add one, you’ll define the conversion you care about—like an event being performed, a person entering a segment, or a person leaving a segment—and how that conversion is counted.

Supported goal types:

  • Perform an event — Conversion when a specific event occurs
  • Enter segment — Conversion when a person enters a segment
  • Leaves a segment — Conversion when a person leaves a segment

Conversion:

  • Defines how long a person’s goal action can be credited after a qualifying delivery.
  • Duration: value + unit (minutes | hours | days | weeks | months).
  • Start point (delivery attribution):
    • being sent — starts when a campaign message is sent.
    • opening — starts on the first open.
    • clicking a tracked link in — starts on the first tracked click.
  • Each new qualifying delivery can start a new conversion.
Campaign goal settings

How to configure:

  1. Choose whether to set a goal (“Yes/No”).
  2. If Perform an event, pick the event name. The conversion window starts when a campaign delivery is sent/opened/clicked (based on the delivery option you choose).
  3. If Enter segment or Leaves a segment, pick the segment name. A conversion is counted when the person enters/leaves the chosen segment within the conversion window.
  4. Set the conversion window (value + unit) to control how long conversions are attributed to this campaign.

Exit conditions

Exit conditions control whether and when someone leaves a campaign. For example, if you’re running a win‑back campaign for people who haven’t logged in for 7 days, you’d typically set an exit rule so that once a person logs back in (or meets your goal), they’re removed and no longer receive follow‑up messages. You can also use exit rules to stop messaging when someone enters a suppression segment or takes an action that makes the campaign no longer relevant.

Campaign exit conditions

Options:

  • They achieve the goal: End a person’s journey the moment the goal criteria are met.
  • They no longer match the trigger and filters: Most relevant for segment‑triggered workflows; people who fall out of the trigger criteria will exit.
  • People don’t exit; they move through the entire campaign: Ensures the person traverses every node unless they hit an end node.

Subscription preferences

Select who is eligible to receive messages:

  • All subscribed people (default)
  • All subscribed and unsubscribed

Campaign triggers

A campaign trigger defines who can enter a campaign and when they’re allowed to start. Most triggers are person‑based—for example, when someone meets specific criteria. The people who qualify become the audience for the campaign, and they’re the ones you’ll message, update, and move through the workflow.

Trigger types

Conviso supports three trigger types:

  • Segment
Starts a campaign when people meet the rules of a segment. Use it when you want to continuously include people who match criteria over time, or when you want to reuse the same audience definition across multiple campaigns. Segment conditions can be built from profile attributes, events, and more.

  • Event
Starts a campaign when an event is received that matches your criteria. For example, you might trigger a flow when a person abandons a cart, visits a key page, or completes a purchase.

  • Important date
Starts a campaign on a specific day—or relative to it—based on a date attribute on a person’s profile. Any properly formatted date attribute can be used. This is ideal for recurring outreach like birthdays and anniversaries, as well as time‑based reminders such as renewals or upcoming payments.

Workflow builder

Use the builder to design the steps people move through in a campaign. Add blocks like messages, time delays, conditions (true/false branches), and more to shape the journey from start to finish.

Individual message settings

Select a message step (or click + to add one). Message settings appear in the right-hand panel.

Start your campaign

After you configure your trigger, workflow, message settings, and validation, click Start campaign.

You’ll see a confirmation explaining that once you start the campaign, the next person who matches the trigger and filters will enter the workflow.

You can also deactivate a live campaign from the campaign details page.

Campaign Analytics

After your campaign goes live, you can monitor its performance from the Analytics tab.
