People and Their Profiles
People are the individuals in your workspace—your customers, users, or contacts. Each person has a profile that contains their identifying information, attributes, and activity history. People are central to everything you do in Conviso: they're the recipients of your messages, the subjects of your segments, and the focus of your campaigns.
What is a person?
A person represents a single individual in your workspace. Each person has:
- External ID - A unique identifier from your system (required)
- Email - Their email address (optional but recommended)
- Name - First name and last name (optional)
- Attributes - Custom data fields that store any information about the person
- Activity History - A record of events, messages sent, and interactions
- Segment Memberships - The segments they belong to
Person profiles
A person's profile is a comprehensive view of everything you know about them. You can access a person's profile by clicking on their name or email in the People table.

- Demographic information (age, location, preferences)
- Behavioral data (purchase history, feature usage)
- Account details (subscription status, plan type)
- Custom fields specific to your business
Attributes can be:
- Imported via CSV

identifyandtrackevents) - Set automatically by the system based on events

Segments
The Segments tab shows all segments the person belongs to, including:
- Data-driven segments - Segments they match based on criteria

You can see when they entered each segment and view segment details.

The Activity tab provides a complete timeline of:
- Events tracked for this person

- Campaign interactions
- Profile updates
- Segment changes
This gives you a full picture of the person's journey and engagement with your platform.

How people are created
People can be added to your workspace in several ways:
- CSV import - Bulk import people from a CSV file
- API calls - Automatically created when you call
identifyortrackvia the SDK or API - Event tracking - Created when events are tracked for new identifiers
Identifying people
Each person must have at least one identifier:
- External ID - A unique identifier from your system (e.g., user ID, customer ID)
- Email - Their email address
When you identify a person via API, you can use either their external ID or email. The system will:
- Create a new person if they don't exist
- Update an existing person if they're already in your workspace
Person attributes
Attributes are flexible data fields that let you store any information about a person. Common uses include:
- Demographics: age, gender, location, language
- Behavioral: last purchase date, total orders, favorite products
- Account: subscription tier, account status, billing information
- Custom: any business-specific data you need

Person activity and engagement

- Events - All tracked events (page views, purchases, button clicks, etc.)
- Messages - All messages sent to them (emails, push, SMS)
