Delete a Person

Workspace admins can remove people from active use in Conviso — one at a time from a person profile, or in bulk by uploading a CSV. Deleted people disappear from People, search, segments, and messaging until they return with the same user ID.

Soft delete

Deleting a person is a soft delete. The profile is marked deleted and hidden from the product — it is not a permanent wipe of personal data or a GDPR erase request.

Who can delete a person

Only workspace admins (or organisation owners/admins) can delete a person.

Edit and View users will not see the Delete person action or the Bulk delete settings page.

How to delete a person

  1. Go to People.
  2. Open the person you want to delete.
  3. In the person header, click Delete person.
  4. Review the confirmation dialog, then click Delete.

After a successful delete, you'll return to the People list. That person no longer appears in list or search results.

note

Removing someone from a segment only drops segment membership — it does not delete the person. To delete many people at once, use Bulk delete (below).

Bulk delete people

Use Bulk delete when you need to remove many people from active use in one go. Each person in the CSV is soft-deleted the same way as a single delete from their profile.

Who can bulk delete

Only workspace admins (or organisation owners/admins). The page is under Settings → Bulk delete.

Prepare your CSV

Each row must include at least one identifier so Conviso can match the person in your workspace:

ColumnMatches
EmailPerson email address
IDCustomer ID (external ID)
Person IDInternal Conviso person ID

You can use a CSV exported from Conviso — it already includes Email, ID, Person ID, and name columns. You can also build your own file as long as each row has Email, ID, or Person ID.

Up to 10,000 rows per upload.

Option A — Export selected people from People

  1. Go to People.
  2. Select the people you want to delete (selection persists across pages).
  3. Click Export CSV and confirm.
  4. Go to Settings → Bulk delete.
  5. Upload the exported file.

Option B — Upload any matching CSV

  1. Go to Settings → Bulk delete.
  2. Drop your CSV or click to upload.
  3. Conviso matches each row to a person in the workspace.

Review and confirm

  1. After upload, Conviso shows a preview of matched people (name, email, phone, ID).
  2. Rows that are not found, already deleted, or invalid (no identifier) are skipped and reported — they are not deleted.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. In the confirmation dialog, type DELETE, then click Delete again.

A progress bar runs while deletes are processed. When finished, you'll see how many people were deleted, skipped, or failed.

Deleted people are removed from the People list immediately after the job completes.

warning

Bulk delete cannot be undone from the UI. People only come back if they identify again with the same customer ID (see below).

What happens after delete

Whether you delete one person or many, the behaviour is the same:

AreaBehaviour
People list & searchPerson is hidden
Person profileReturns not found
SegmentsMemberships are removed (cleaned up in the background)
CampaignsExecution records are removed; in-flight campaigns skip the person
MessagingNo messages are sent while the person is deleted (all channels, including transactionals)
Block listEntries for that person are cleared
Events / activityHistorical events remain on the person ID

If the person comes back

If the same user identifies again with the same user ID (external ID), Conviso restores that person.

On restore:

  • They reappear in People and search under the same internal person ID
  • Previous event history stays attached
  • Segment memberships and campaign executions are not restored — they start clean
  • Messaging can resume once the person is active again

Track events for a deleted person can also trigger identify, which restores them the same way.

Practical meaning

Delete removes someone from active audiences and sends. It does not permanently block that user ID from ever returning.

Limitations

  • Not a hard delete or anonymisation of profile attributes
  • Not a GDPR "right to be forgotten" erase
  • Event history is retained
  • Bulk delete is CSV-only (Settings → Bulk delete), not a button on the People list itself
  • Bulk delete supports up to 10,000 rows per file
  • Delete and bulk delete are admin-only

FAQ

Can a deleted person come back?
Yes. Identifying again with the same user ID restores them.

Do their segments come back?
No. Segments and campaign execution history are cleared and not restored.

Are their events deleted?
No. Event history stays on the same person ID and is visible again after restore.

Will they still receive messages?
Not while deleted. After restore, messaging works again as normal.

Is this GDPR erasure?
No. Use this for operational removal from active use. For legal erasure requirements, follow your organisation's data-retention process separately.

Can I bulk delete from the People list?
Not directly. Select people on People, export them to CSV, then upload that file in Settings → Bulk delete.

What if some CSV rows don't match anyone?
They are skipped during preview. Only matched, active people are included when you confirm delete.

What happens to rows for people already deleted?
They are skipped. Bulk delete only targets people who are still active in the workspace.

Is bulk delete the same as single delete?
Yes. Each matched person gets the same soft delete — hidden from the product, messaging stopped, segments cleaned up, events kept.
